From Seneca Ohi꞉yoʼ, a proper name derived from ohi꞉yo꞉h (“good river”).^[1] The name of the Allegheny river, which the Lenape and Iroquois considered to be part of the same single river as the Ohio, means the same thing in Unami.^[2]
