Etymology 1

From Proto-Nuclear Polynesian *qula-qula (“a prawn or shrimp”),[1] a reduplication of Proto-Polynesian *qura from Proto-Oceanic *quraŋ, from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *qudaŋ, from Proto-Austronesian *qudaŋ. Cognate with Niuean ulaula (“spiked prawn”). Equivalent to a reduplication of ura.
