Etymology

Inherited from Medieval Tashelhit اِيرْدَنْ (irden, “wheat”),[1] from Proto-Berber *i-rd-ăn (“wheat”).[2] Synchronically, the plural form of ird (“a grain of wheat”). Cognate with Tarifit irden (“wheat”) and Ghadames yărdăn (“wheat”).
