grabpole (plural grabpoles)

  1. A pole, usually fitted vertically, found on public transport vehicles such as train carriages, buses and trams, for passengers to hold when standing.
    • 1960 March, “Restaurant Cars for British Railways”, in Railway Magazine, page 155:
      Draught screens are fitted at the vestibule and at the service ends. Grabpoles are incorporated in each screen.
