      Uncertain, ultimately from Proto-Slavic *xȗjь. This word in noun 1 sense 1 was not attested until 1806[1][2] (however, Wacław Potocki of Łużna [Lesser Poland] used it in his texts from 1669[3] and 1677[4]), and was only an urban word.[5] For this reason, Sławski[5] considered the word to be a borrowing from Old Ruthenian *хуй (*xuj), from Old East Slavic хуи (xui), from Proto-Slavic *xȗjь. However, the Old Polish proper nouns Chuj and Łupichuj [since 1471; the latter being synonymous with Łupipyje, with the second element from pyje (“penis”)] suggest that this word is inherited from Old Polish *chuj, from Proto-Slavic *xȗjь. Cognate to Silesian chuj and Kashubian chùj. False cognate of Spanish chuj.
