Etymology

    Borrowed from English folklore with a spelling pronunciation. Doublet of Volklehre; not to be confused with Volkslehre (“ethnology”), a term now associated with Nazism.

    2. (more negative) the artificial perpetuation of customs, their mere imitation or re-enactment
      Wenn ich im Dorfkrug nur noch Hochdeutsch höre, sind die plattdeutschen Straßenschilder reine Folklore!
      If I only hear High German in the village pub, the street signs in Low German are a mere re-enactment!
