The copepod sense came from the Greek mythology sense, which is from Ancient Greek Κύκλωψ (Kúklōps, “one-eyed giant”), from Proto-Hellenic *kúklōps, from Proto-Indo-European *pḱú-klōps (“cattle thief”).
